Garage Sale

LONE KAURI SCHOOL GARAGE SALE

SATURDAY 27th OCTOBER


Donations sought: Lone Kauri School's first community garage sale fundraiser! The sale will be on Saturday the 27th of October from 9am-2pm. At the studio at 12 La Trobe Track.

We will have delicious baked goods and pots of coffee and tea to reward bargain hunters. To make the sale a success we need donations of quality used (and new) items. Collectables, curios, priceless relics are all welcome, as well as everyday household items. Call Kate at 812 8719 to arrange pick up or drop off of your donations. (Large items will be accepted on a individual item basis) Clothing donations should be clean and free of holes, stains, etc. Your donations and your patronage of the sale will be given to the Lone Kauri School maintenance and improvement fund.

School Gladefest March 3rd

Support Lone Kauri School by taking part in a Navigation Challenge or just enjoy the live entertainment and refreshments. See you there Saturday 3rd March. See Lactic Turkey for event entry and details, the poster for more details about the day. Entertainment and refreshments from 3pm in Pohutukawa Glade, Karekare Beach.

The Trust is holding its AGM on April 27th. 7pm at the Fire Station, guest speaker to follow the meeting.

Beach Cleanup September Sunday 4th

Join the local Landcare group on walk along the beach to Pararaha, pickup up rubbish on the way. Park rangers on hand to transport bags of rubbish, picnic on the beach somewhere near the Pararaha. Meet at the beach carpark 10am.

Karekare Beach Races April 2011

Karekare Beach Races 2011 will be held on Saturday 30th April. This colourful and iconic event raises funds for local causes – this year the local Lone Kauri Community School and Karekare Surf Lifesaving Club will benefit. Both are raising funds for building projects. It is a strictly non-commercial Karekare community event, all funds raised go to the above causes. See the posters above and below for details.

Parking is quite limited at Karekare Beach, please park as directed. Visitors, be prepared for a walk from your car or go to Piha Domain where there where there will be a shuttle service operating. For information on the shuttle ring 627 2644 or 0274 952 526. This service will start at 10 am and the cost will be $5.

Please remember, for safety reasons, no dogs allowed on the beach on race day.

There are no shops or banking facilities at Karekare so do remember to bring cash with you to spend on the yummy food available at school and surf club stalls and so you can have a bet on the horses.

Any locals who haven’t already been collared and who would like to volunteer for a job could contact Jenny or Caroline. There will be help needed early in the day for set-up, as well as during the event, marshalls, directing parking and selling programmes and more needed afterwards for clean-up. Let’s share the work around.

Local Government Elections

The Local Government Elections are almost upon us - you should receive your electoral papers mid-September. There is a meet-the-candidates meeting at Barnett Hall in Piha on Sunday 19th September, 2:30pm. If you do not receive your papers by September 22nd, contact the Electoral Officer ( see http://www.electionservices.org.nz/ or http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/2010Elections/Candidates/Pages/Candidatelist.aspx for more information ).

Karekare Surf Club Resource Consent

The Karekare Surf Club has applied for Resource Consent to rebuild the clubhouse. The application documents are available here. Submissions close July 15th.

Landcare Saturday 8th May

Meeting at the beach carpark, 10am. I was thinking we could tidy away some of the weeds down under the bridge on Watchmans and then take a wander up into Union Bay and see whats over that way that we can lay into. Savage.

KKRRT AGM

The 2010 AGM is to be held on the 23rd of April, 7pm at the Fire Station.

KKRRT Meetings

The next meeting dates for the KKRRT committee are Feb 4th and March 4th. At the Fire Station, 7:30pm as usual. The April meeting is likely to be the AGM.

Filming Proposal for Karekare

A proposal for filming at Karekare that will last 5 days is currently being assessed by the ARC. The KKRRT committee is working closely with the production company to help mitigate any disruption and impact on the local community and area. Contact a member of the committee for more information.

The 2008 KKRRT AGM is to be held at the Karekare Surf Club on the 28th March, from 7pm.

Beach Carpark Options

Here is a set of options for the beach carpark with the new toilet building, showing how some of the lost carparks could be reclaimed with various changes to the layout. Options to be discussed at the next Committee meeting, Tuesday 15th January.

Waterfall Planting

Landcare Karekare is carrying out planting and weeding operations at the beach waterfall on Sunday 9th September, starting at 10am.

Beach Clean Up 2007 - September 30th

Landcare Karekare has postponed its annual beach clean up, to September 30th. Meet at Karekare Beach carpark at 9:30am, bring something to eat and drink, and take a walk down the beach towards Whatipu collecting rubbish. ARC provides bags (and transport of full bags). We will stop just south of the Pararaha stream for lunch. Don't forget to bring warm clothing and a jacket.
